Charity Hope Valentine always tries to look on the bright side of life, despite working in a rundown dance hall and contending with a seemingly endless run of bad luck. When she falls in love with the earnest Oscar Lindquist, her luck seems to be changing. Or will she realise that the most important person to love is herself?
