Established in 2001, the Adelaide Perry Gallery is located in the old Croydon Pub, now a part of PLC Sydney’s, Centre for Art, Design & Technology.
Named in commemoration of Adelaide Elizabeth Perry, a respected Sydney painter and printmaker who taught at the College from 1930 until 1962, the space is an integral and enriching component of Visual Arts and Design & Technology learning at PLC Sydney.
The Gallery offers our students a unique opportunity to broadens their experience and knowledge of art, design and curatorial practice by engaging directly with contemporary professional practitioners. Similarly, the learning and experience they gain through masterclasses and workshops with these artists is invaluable.
The Gallery, which is open to the public, has an annual calendar of events comprising exhibitions of student work as well as exhibitions featuring professional Australian artists, including an exhibition by the College’s ‘artist in residence’.
The premier event at the Gallery each year is the $25,000 Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing. This acquisitive award attracts entries from around Australia and culminates in an exhibition of approximately 45 finalist, held during March each year. The awarded work becomes part of the PLC Sydney Collection.
The Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing is a $25,000 acquisitive art award among the most significant of its kind in the country. Inaugurated in 2006, the Prize is generously supported by the Parents and Friends’ Association of PLC Sydney.
